Welcome to Lily's Intro to Creative Writing Class! April 7, 2009 Below is the revised syllabus. It supersedes the original syllabus. Revised Syllabus for ENGL 210 – 4
4/9: No Class 4/14: Read: “Brownies” by ZZ Packer; “What You Pawn I Will Redeem” by Sherman Alexie Hand in: 4 copies of a 6-15 page story, Craft Response Essay on a story of your choice. 4/16: No Class 4/21: ALL DAY WORKSHOP – EVERYONE MUST ATTEND! Read: “Cousins” by Jo Ann Beard; “How to be a Writer” by Lorrie Moore, your classmates’ stories. Hand in: 2 copies each of 2 Classmate Critiques, Literary Response Essay, 4 copies of a poem you haven’t revised yet. 4/23: Read: “Flying Revisions Flag,”and your classmates’ poems Hand in: 2 copies each of 3 Classmate Critiques for your classmates’ poems 4/28: Read: “Revising” by Carolyn See Hand in: A revised version of your poem, 4 copies of your first story revision, a short (1 page) reflection on the revision process. 4/30: Read: Your classmates’ stories Hand in: 2 copies each of 2 Classmate Critiques.
5/2 – 5/5: Individual portfolio conferences
5/12 – 5/14: Class readings
5/18: FINAL PORTFOLIO DUE! Hand in: 4 poems, originals and revisions 6-15 pages of fiction, original and revisions 1 short reflection on the revision process 2 Craft Response Essays 1 Literary Event Response March 24, 2009 The following changes have been made to the syllabus: 1. 3-5 p. focusing on setting due 3/31 instead of 3/26 2. 6-8 p. fiction due 4/7 instead of 4/2 3. No class 4/16 4. Response to a Literary Event due 4/21 at the latest. March 1, 2009 The following is the conference schedule for this coming week. Make sure you mark down when your conference is, and please arrive on time with your 4 poems, 1 revision, a Craft Response Paper, and your self-evaluation. Let me know if you have any questions.
