Tuesday:  What did you discover in reading Michael P. Quinlin’s Irish Boston that surprised you, puzzled you or just interested you?  Why?  Be prepared to discuss this in class. 

Thursday:  What do you think of Michael Patrick MacDonald’s All Souls: A Family Story from Southie?  Does this book change your impression of Boston?  What did being Irish mean to the MacDonald family?  Is MacDonald’s portrayal of Southie fair?  What significant role does Whitey Bulger play in All Souls?  Is MacDonald disloyal to his community?  Why does the book begin and end at Gate of Heaven Church?
